The Uncanny of Sleeping Bags: What I Learned on Tour With a Georgian Folk Ensemble

Marina is currently a PhD Candidate in Anthropology at Columbia University. She holds an MFA in poetry from the same institution. Her dissertation research deals with various kinds of state intervention into folk music practice in Western Georgia (the country, not the state). She splits her time between Georgia and Brooklyn, and does a lot of singing everywhere, preferably over a good meal. (photo by Lasha Bedenashvili)
